John McGlynn was left to rue missed chances for his Raith Rovers side as former Wolves star Christophe Berra signs a pre-contract at Stark’s Park.

The 36-year-old will likely play until he’s at least 38 after signing a two-year deal with John McGlynn’s side, which will begin next season. He has made over 200 Hearts appearances during a combined 11 years in Gorgie, making over 150 Wolves appearances too after a seven-figure move to Molineux in 2009.

Raith Rovers were eliminated from the Scottish Cup on Saturday following the pre-contract announcement of the former Wolves and current Hearts defender but they did impress in the 2-1 extra-time defeat to top six Scottish Premiership side Livingston. McGlynn had mixed emotions at full-time.

He said: “I thought we were excellent in the first half. We really should have been having good attempts at goal and we rue that now. We could easily have gone into half-time with a 2-0 cushion. The second half didn’t go as well, albeit we defended really well.

“They didn’t create a lot for all the ball Livingston had. But it’s no surprise Livingston scored from a corner kick, we all know how they play. It takes the game into extra-time and we defended well, but didn’t create an awful lot. Lots of hard-work, and maybe with all the games we have played lately, it caught up with us.”
