There’s plenty of Christmas cheers to be had for Accies boss Brian Rice after watching his Hamilton side beat Hearts 2-1.
A scrappy first half was soon forgotten about as Mickel Miller handed the home side a crucial lead. It gave them the advantage in a game of fine margins and plenty of momentum.
Will Collar got a second for Accies to secure the match. Oliver Bozanic’s late header was merely a consolation for the Gorgie side as they slipped to bottom. Hamilton meanwhile opened up a three point gap on them.
After weeks of hard work and a few unfortunate results, Rice is glad that Hamilton finally got their just rewards prior to Christmas.
“I don’t normally say this when we win matches, but I thought we thoroughly deserved to win that today,” said Rice. “Our second half performance was outstanding.
“I was just looking at the team there. When I brought Lewis Smith off the bench, that’s the youngest Hamilton team that’s ever played in the Premiership. Alex Gogic was the oldest at 25.
“A 20-year-old goalkeeper, 17-year-old centre-half, 19-year-olds, 18-year-olds, they put a shift in. I don’t get down when we get beat, I’m ok. I am absolutely delighted for my lads today.
“For everything they’ve been through over the last few weeks. They’ve been grinding out performances without getting results but today we deserved to win that.”
