Richard Tait isn’t concerning himself with his future as he aims to do as well as he can for Motherwell during their push for European football.
The versatile full-back has been with the Well since 2016, making 140 appearances so far in claret and amber. This season has saw the former Grimsby Town man’s minutes limited, however, featuring 12 times in the league.
Tait’s played 90 minutes in three of the last five league matches though. His deal in North Lanarkshire may be expiring this summer, but the full-back says that is at the back of mind as he explains why his team deserve to be third, despite having gone eight games without a win in all competitions.
“We deserve to be up there with the results we’ve had,” said Tait. “But at this moment in time we are struggling to get a result. It just so happens that we were doing so well earlier in the season that we’re still in third.
“We just need to keep focusing on what we’re doing. We had a couple of days off to go away and refresh ourselves, hopefully that holds us in good stead. I’ve not played as much as I’d like to have done this year.
“I’m back in the team at the minute which is really what I’m focusing on. I’ve not thought about that (a new contract) but obviously I’d like to be here. I’ll just need to see what happens in the remaining games.
“I don’t mind playing in other positions so wherever I’m put I’ll do my best to try and hold the position down. I think I’ve did ok when I’ve played, probably could have done a bit better.
“I’ll play as many as I can, as well as I can.”
