Ross MacIver says he has ‘loved’ his Partick Thistle loan spell as the young forward waits to see what the future holds for him at Motherwell.

The three-club rule this season allowed MacIver to join Partick Thistle in the winter loan window after an appearance for Motherwell against Rangers and loan stint at Greenock Morton. He scored two goals with two assists in eight matches as the Firhill club achieved promotion back to the Scottish Championship and won League One.

MacIver says it’s been a great experience: “I was quite lucky the way it ended up as this season you can play for three teams. I had played against Rangers and because of that rule I was able to come back out on loan, otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to. I was very lucky with the way it’s all ended up this season.

“It’s probably the highlight of my career, it’s always hard to win trophies. I’ve probably not played as much as I wanted to but I’ve loved being part of a proper first-team. I didn’t play as many games as I wanted to but I feel as though I’ve made an impact and did my part to help us lift the trophy.

“When I came in at the start, we were in sixth place or something like that. I remember looking at it and thinking that it’s probably going to be the play-offs but after the first week, I thought that we had a really good chance.

“We were inconsistent at the start and drawing games but once we went on that winning run, I knew straight away that we wouldn’t get caught. Especially after coming off such a long time off, it just showed how much stronger and fitter we were than everybody else.”

MacIver is out of contract at Motherwell in the summer but the 22-year-old hasn’t heard anything on his Fir Park future. He would be interested in a return to Partick Thistle though if the opportunity arose.

He said: “I’ve not heard anything (from Motherwell) but I’ll probably find out in the next few weeks. They are obviously concentrating on their last few games so it will be after the season is done that we will discuss what is happening.

“Definitely [could sign for Thistle on a permanent deal]. Especially when I know everybody here inside out but we will see what happens in the next few months. I’ve loved it, honestly.”
