St Johnstone manager Callum Davidson has paid tribute to the vocal support who made the short trip to Dens Park on Wednesday night as the Saints secured a return to Hampden and booked a League Cup semi-final clash with Celtic in November – and Davidson admits it is great for his players to get such backing from the stands.

While fans of the Perth side had to watch from home as Davidson and his side made history by recording the club’s first-ever domestic double last season, they were in fine voice in the City of Discovery to see a 2-0 win over James McPake’s Dundee.

Davidson is hoping for a repeat on Sunday when they make the trip to Edinburgh to face in-form Hibs at Easter Road with the McDiarmid Park legend hoping to send the St Johnstone fans home happy after a third successive win.

“I think they always like a trip to the capital and we’ve always got a great support there,” Davidson said.

“They were brilliant on Wednesday night. Haven’t heard them like that for a while and it is great. Great for the players to get that support and we’re just thankful we turned the into a victory.

“Hopefully, we can get a positive result on Sunday in Edinburgh and send them all home happy.”
