Hamilton Accies manager Brian Rice says his players are giving everything they’ve got to keep the club in the Scottish Premiership.

Livingston beat Rice’s side 2-1 in West Lothian on Saturday, courtesy of goals from Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and Scott Pittman. Callum Smith scored an excellent goal for Hamilton but it wasn’t enough as they remain in the relegation play-off spot.

But Rice sees plenty of determination to survive: “”I though the big man {Jay Emmanuel-Thomas} scored a great goal but from our point of view, it was poor defending. I’ve not seen it back {Livingston’s winner} but the ball just flashed across goal but he shouldn’t get the ball across.

“The battle goes on and I think you can see that. This is a really hard place to come and get a result at anytime but you see the boys out there battling for every ball. I don’t think there was a great deal in the match and I think we cancelled each other out a lot.

“It’s two poor goals that we lost although we scored a terrific goal ourselves. I thought we deserved a point out of the game. They continue to fight their corner and we know that we are down to the bare bones. Everybody out there is giving it everything they’ve got and that’s what is required as a Hamilton player.”

Kyle Munro came in for key player Scott McMann at left-back and Rice is hopeful he’ll be back for next week’s meeting with St Mirren: “Young Kyle {Munro} came in today after Scott McMann pulled out injured to add to our woes.

“He struggled in the first half but he was much better in the second half. McMann felt his hamstring. He’s not trained since the Aberdeen game but he trained yesterday and we thought he’d be okay. But he was feeling it and it wasn’t worth taking the chance of him being out long-term. We are hopeful that he will be back for next week.”
