They’ve both been unshakeable options at the back this season – but Hibs star Joe Newell says his team won’t shy away from their Rangers challenge this weekend.
Both sides have barely conceded a goal this season but something will have to give if either want a win at the weekend. Rangers haven’t had anyone score against them this season whilst Hibs haven’t conceded from open play.
It sets up an intriguing encounter this weekend at Easter Road. Hibs go into it off the back of an impressive 3-0 win away to St Mirren and Rangers are fresh off putting four past Dundee United in a 4-0 victory.
Easter Road is a good place to be at the minute, a winning mentality growing in the squad. It’s one of the reasons why Rangers won’t scare the Hibees this weekend according to Newell.
“We’ve had a very good start and the way we are playing at the minute, with our defensive record, there’s no reason for us to fear anyone and we definitely won’t,” said Newell.
“Obviously we know the threats Rangers have and the quality they have but I think we’ve shown enough that we can be feared as well.
“It should be a good game. It’s that winning mentality and the momentum you gain.
“Obviously they have that as well as they’ve started the season well. But we’re going in with plenty of confidence.
“When you have that winning mentality, it’s easy to keep winning. It was the opposite at the start of last season when we were on a bad run.
“We’re just enjoying it. There’s a consistency – most of the team has stayed the same – and it’s just a good place to be at the minute.”
