Hibs manager Jack Ross was delighted to see Kevin Nisbet break his recent goal drought when he netted against St Johnstone at the weekend – and he’s backed the Scotland star to hit the net against Rangers tonight.
Nisbet had gone since October 3 without a goal before netting Hibs’ first in the comeback win at McDiarmid Park on Saturday, having already seen two efforts disallowed against Callum Davidson’s side.
Ross admitted that Nisbet has been frustrated by his recent lack of goals as he expressed his hope that it can be the “catalyst” to start scoring consistently again for the Easter Road side.
“I’m really pleased for him. He knows how much faith I have in him,” Ross said.
“I had a good conversation with him on Friday about aspects of his game, the bits he needs to continue to do well to give himself opportunities to score.
“I thought he looked at it. The goal in the first half was contentious but the finish was excellent, and the finish in the second half is what he’s all about.
“He’s a good player but that will help him enormously because he’s still a young man and he was frustrated by it and he was feeling it.
“I would back him now to go on and score regularly. He did it last season and hopefully this will be the catalyst for him.”
Hibs face Rangers tonight at Easter Road and will be hoping for a repeat of the 3-1 Hampden win in the Premier Sports Cup semi-finals last month.
After ending their five-game losing run over the weekend, Hibs really need to start putting together a consistent run of wins if they are to keep touch with Dundee United in fourth.
Getting Nisbet consistently scoring will be a massive help there for Hibs and a goal or two tonight would go a long way to securing three points.
