Dundee, St Johnstone and Livingston all booked their spots in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals draw on Saturday afternoon.
The Dens Park club were eager to bounce back against Airdrieonians at home after an extremely difficult week in the Premiership.
Tony Docherty’s men suffered horrendous back-to-back 6-0 hammerings to Hearts last weekend and then Celtic in midweek.
As a result, murmurings of them slipping up against Airdrieonians in the Scottish Cup added to the build-up of the match – but Dundee made sure there was going to be no upset.
The tie was over at half-time as the Dark Blues raced into a 4-0 lead. Clark Robertson and Oluwaseun Adewumi scored while Lyall Cameron netted a brace on his return to the line-up.
Dundee couldn’t add to their commanding advantage in the second-half but are safely into the hat.
St Johnstone squeeze past Hamilton Accies
In Perth, St Johnstone extended their winning streak to four matches as they just about overcame Championship opposition in Hamilton Accies.
Simo Valakari has transformed the fortunes of the McDiarmid Park side in recent weeks as they try to climb out of bottom spot in the Premiership.
Today’s game was another great opportunity to further boost confidence and while they left it late, St Johnstone got the job done.
Adama Sidibeh scored his fifth goal of the season and first since August to win the game with an 87th minute effort.
Livingston take care of Cove Rangers
Substitute Tete Yengi fired in a late double to ensure Livingston avoided a nervy finish against League One’s Cove Rangers.
Defender Ryan McGowan got the West Lothian outfit in front after 25 minutes but they couldn’t find the all-important second until the final stages.
Yengi was brought on by manager David Martindale to make the game safe and that’s exactly what the giant striker did.
Despite not seeing much of the ball, Cove did offer a decent attacking threat with four shots on target compared to Livi’s five.
However, Livingston joined Dundee, St Johnstone and Hibs in the hat for the quarter-finals.
