A structured and well thought-out 2-0 away win has lifted John Hughes’ Ross County off the foot of the table after a terrific display against Hibs.
A first half Harry Paton goal lead the away side into the break 1-0 up before an easy tap-in in the 75th minute from former Hibee Oli Shaw rounded up the scoring for the away side in a great defensive display.

On a terrific night for Hughes’ men, but a disappointing one for Jack Ross’, here are three things we learned from the game.
Staggies defensive shape
Having only been Ross County manager for nine days and playing three games in that time, there hasn’t been a massive chance for manager Hughes to see his players train, but one thing he has managed is the creation of a solid defensive shape to stop the leakage of goals his side have conceded.
Defence wins you football matches and while known for his attacking style, this will be key for ‘Yogi.’

Lack of creativity hampered Hibs
Hibs never really got going against the Staggies. With few chances, it proved difficult for them to cause their visitors any real problems, despite having an abundance of talent on display.
It’ll be put down as an off-night for Hibs who will look to continue their strong push for third spot in upcoming matches.
Penalty controversy continues
Hibs had a few penalty shouts through the game with one or two looking like they should’ve been given. Ross said post-match: “I just asked the referee a couple of things.

“I thought the one in the second half was a penalty and I still think it was but as I said it is what it is and it’s done now and it’s not the reason why we lost the game tonight.”
