Dundee United manager Tam Courts is hopeful Tony Watt can “kickstart things” with his maiden goal for the Arabs tonight when he faces former club, Motherwell.

Watt originally a pre-contract with the Tannadice side in December ahead of a summer move to Dundee before making the switch to Tayside last month when the two sides agreed terms.

Having left Fir Park as top scorer so far this season, Watt is yet to score for Dundee United but Courts has been pleased with what the striker has added to his side.

“Tony has made a big impact with his leadership, his personality and his assists,” Courts said.

“The thing now is probably getting him on the scoresheet and it can be funny how football unfolds, so he will be desperate to get that first goal against his old club.

“Tony enjoys being centre stage and having that pressure on his shoulders. We’ve seen that in his personality and the way he goes about leading within the team.

“So hopefully he can kickstart things for us against Motherwell.”

A win for Courts’ side in tonight’s Tannadice clash could see United go as high as fourth in the Premiership as they set their sights on European football.

Hearts already appear to have third place secured so the likes of United, Motherwell and Hibs look to be scrapping it out to secure fourth.
