Partick Thistle midfielder Gary Harkins has admitted that the Firhill side’s Scottish Cup run is providing a ‘good distraction’ from their Championship relegation battle.

Thistle take on Hearts in a Scottish Cup quarter-final replay at Tynecastle on Tuesday night. Harkins has disclosed that a win over the Premiership side would give Thistle a huge boost in their battle to avoid the drop.

“The Scottish Cup is a great distraction. If we win against Hearts the place will be buzzing” he told the BBC.

“I don’t think anybody is doom and gloom. It’s basically another 11 or 12 cup finals to do something this year.”

Whilst the cup run is a distraction, Thistle are involved in a three way battle to avoid their second successive relegation.

They are in ninth place in the Championship, one point behind Falkirk and two ahead of Alloa.

Thistle face Falkirk on Saturday, but the cup replay is first on the agenda.

If Thistle manage to defeat Hearts, they would face Inverness in the semi-final. That would give them a great chance of reaching the Scottish Cup Final.

That would be an incredible achievement for a struggling Championship side. Harkins certainly doesn’t sound intimidated by playing Hearts.

He will need to be at his very best if Thistle are to defeat the Jambos. If he and his team-mates are at their very best, Thistle can pull off a huge shock.
