Hibs manager Jack Ross has hinted that Nathan Wood will get the nod over Darren McGregor this weekend as Ryan Porteous serves his suspension, as the Easter Road gaffer backed the Englishman to take his chance in the side.
Porteous is out after his red card at Ibrox before the international break and Ross confirmed either Wood or Darren McGregor will replace Porto at centre-back when his side face Dundee United tomorrow.
Ross admits losing Porteous is “not ideal” but he’s confident either Wood or McGregor will be fine regardless of which one is given the nod tomorrow.
“Losing Ryan is not ideal because he has been terrific for me,” Ross said [Evening News].
Darren has played a number of times this season and has always acquitted himself well. Nathan is a young man we brought to the club and he’s had to be patient.
“He’s played a game and a half for the England Under-20s in the international period and performed well.
“If he gets the opportunity I’m sure it’s one he will look to take because he came here to play games and he’s now going to get that chance through circumstances to try and stay in the team.”
As well as tomorrow’s game, Porteous will miss next weekend’s trip to Pittodrie to take on Aberdeen, handing a chance for Wood or McGregor to really show what they can do.
While both will be likely to drop out once Porteous is fit again, two strong showings will give the Hibs boss something to think about for upcoming games as we get close to the typically hectic winter schedule.
