Hibs legend Lewis Stevenson knows the Hibees are in for a tough game this weekend when they face Championship leaders Arbroath in the Scottish Cup as the Easter Road star admits Shaun Maloney’s side have a “proper fight” on their hands to turn their form around.
Stevenson played in midfield as Maloney’s side lost 2-0 to Rangers at Ibrox last night and the veteran star isn’t expecting an easy time of it against the part-timers in the last 16 of the cup.
The Hibs star is still the only player to have won both domestic trophies as a Hibee and expects the Red Lichties to pose as tough a challenge as Rangers did last night when they meet at Gayfield.
“It is going to be a different game on Sunday,” Stevenson said. “But equally hard for different reasons. I’ve seen them play a few times this season, they have a lot of good players who can score goals so we need to be on our best to win.
“There is a lot of hard work being put in, we have a proper fight on our hands at the moment and we just need to get back to winning games.”
Hibs have failed to score in six of their last seven games and they really need to start hitting the net soon if things are to turn around for Maloney.
While the Hibs boss might have good ideas on how he wants the game played, things simply aren’t working and the Easter Road side are in real danger of getting sucked into the fight at the bottom of the table.
