Hibs star Martin Boyle thinks he’ll need a ‘mirace’ to repeat his Hampden heroics against Rangers when his side face Celtic in tomorrow’s Premier Sports Cup final at the national stadium.

Boyle bagged a first-half hat-track to book the Hibees a return trip to Hampden and the Australian international is hoping everything can fall Hibs’ way again as they look to get their hands on the League Cup for the first time since 2006/07.

“I will need a miracle for that to happen again!” Boyle said.

“It was just one of those days when everything fell for me, everything dropped, which was great.

“The squad played fantastically that day and the fans were excellent. So, fingers crossed, more of the same on Sunday.”

With Easter Road legend David Gray to continue in interim charge for the final, Boyle was full of praise for the influence his former teammate has hade since stepping in to replace Jack Ross on a short-term basis.

Gray’s decision to retire fromplaying and join the coaching staff is one Boyle knows was “tough” for the former defender but the Hibees star thinks he has been “fantastic” since switching from player to coach.

Shaun Maloney’s expected arrival as manager next week will see Gray return to his role as a coach and Boyle thinks the Scottish Cup-winning skipper has a big future ahead of him.

“For him to step away from playing football and take the role that he did was obviously a tough decision, and one that I don’t think he looks back on,” Boyle added.

“He is more than happy. He is great around the dressing room. Adapting from being captain to keeping himself distanced from the boys was a big decision.

“He has been fantastic and I think he will have a big future in the game, if it’s management or helping out on the side.”
