It’s the battle of the Saints in Paisley tonight as St Mirren host St Johnstone in the Scottish Premiership – with both sides confirming their starting XIs ahead of kick-off.

With 0-0 draws against both Dundee sides sandwiching a win over Livingston, St Johnstone will be looking to create some breathing space between themselves and Dundee while the Paisley Saints are looking for their fifth win in their last six games.

With the two meetings between the sides ending in 0-0 draws this season, there might not be many goals in Paisley – although both sides are sure to come out and attack.

St Mirren’s recent form has seen them close the gap to the likes of Motherwell and Dundee United as they look to finally secure a top-six place.

Buddies boss Jim Goodwin confessed that it’s the closest the league has been in his lifetime as he looked ahead to facing the Perth Saints, saying: “It’s the most competitive the league has ever been in my lifetime, from top to bottom.

“I don’t think there’s a team that would ever look at a fixture and think ‘that’s a nice easy game for three points’.

“I think Livingston, Ross County and ourselves have a great spirit about the group. There’s no egos.

“All our lads buy into what we’re trying to do and I can see that with Livi and County as well. Hence why they’ve got the results they have recently.

“The pressure is always on the big boys like Aberdeen, Hibs and Hearts. The onus is always on them to beat us so-called small teams.”
