Hibs’ Reserves side enjoyed a wonderful afternoon at HTC as they hit six in Reserve Cup action, with Rangers loanee Glenn Middleton scoring two.

The 19-year-old helped inspire the Leith club as they made their way to the next round with a second half brace. There was further good news for Hibees as Darren McGregor returned to action.

An experienced side took to the field against St Mirren, with Adam Bogdan, McGregor, Middleton and Fraser Murray all appearing. The scoring started before the half time whistle through McGregor.

Murray added a second shortly after the restart before Middleton came to the fore. The Rangers loanee netted a penalty after being fouled in the box and converted a Murray cross into the net.

Jamie Gullan scored a fifth before Murray got another to finish the rout. It was a welcome return for first-team stars like McGregor and Middleton, who have been without first-team minutes in recent weeks.

Bogdan was making an appearance after he rejoined the club recently. McGregor meanwhile stepped up his recovery from an abdominal injury. Middleton meanwhile hasn’t featured in any of Jack Ross’ first three Hibs squads.

It was an excellent afternoon for the Hibs Reserves and players like Middleton and McGregor will be happy with their efforts.
