Hearts have been eliminated from the 2020/21 Scottish Cup in shock circumstances, Highland League side Brora Rangers winning 2-1.

Brora Rangers stunned Hearts twice, in front firstly though Jordan Macrae and then Martin Maclean. Christophe Berra’s header couldn’t prevent the 2020 finalists tumbling out the Scottish Cup at the second round to fifth-tier opposition in what is one of the competition’s biggest shocks in recent memory.

The Highland League side hadn’t played since December 19 and hadn’t been back in training for more than two weeks due to the lower league shutdown. But against the runaway Championship league leaders, they started on the front foot.

Macrae fired a shot into the top corner after 11 minutes as Hearts’ stumbling form seen in recent Championship matches set into this Scottish Cup tie. It took until the second half to equalise as Berra headed home.

But they were behind again less than three minutes later as Hearts were caught sleeping at a corner, Maclean rising highest to head home 20 minutes from time.

Robbie Neilson’s side fell well below-par on a horrific night for them, but joy for Brora Rangers, who’s cup campaign will continue against Stranraer in 11 days times after a stunning win.
