Hibs’ Development Squad have shown a ruthless streak against Huddersfield Town, coasting past the Terriers 7-1 at HTC as Jamie Gullan ran riot.
A strong Hibees team was fielded. Seven first-team players started the match, with Adam Bogdan, Tom James, Darren McGregor, David Gray, Fraser Murray, Melker Hallberg and Gullan all featuring.
Huddersfield by contrast had fielded an U19s side. Hibs got scoring underway inside nine minutes after Innes Murray played Gullan in for his first of the afternoon.
He would have his hat-trick completed just nine minutes later. A shot from the edge of the area found the net three minutes after his first goal before a Fraser Murray cutback was turned in by the young Hibee to complete a three-goal haul.
Yrick Gallantes made the score tally four by half time after Gullan’s 36th minute shot deflected off him and into the net. Jaheim Headley pulled one back for Huddersfield just before the hour mark in the second half.
It was 5-1 just five minutes after this though as Gallantes got on the scoresheet again, putting a Fraser Murray cross into the net. Gullan was at it again shortly afterwards, scoring his fourth of the day after another Fraser Murray assist.
There was no further scoring for Gullan but Hibs’ goal tally didn’t stop at six. Steven Bradley finished it with a bottom corner effort after Gullan was denied a sixth goal of the afternoon.
It’s a good workout for the players involved and Gullan has certainly sent first-team manager Jack Ross a message with a four-goal haul.
