Hearts boss Craig Levein was unhappy with his players after they lost at home for the second league fixture in a row.
The Jambos lost 3-1 to Rangers in a game which the Ibrox side controlled from start to finish. Levein hopes that his team can learn from the defeat and cut out the errors.
“We need to work on our pressing, as a team” he told the Edinburgh Evening News.
“Nowhere near good enough”
“We set out today to press Rangers high up the field and didn’t get it right. It doesn’t help that we shot ourselves in the foot and gave away two silly goals, but the pressing was nowhere near good enough.”
Perhaps the only bright spot for the Tynecastle side on the day was the second-half consolation goal from Steven MacLean, but that won’t make up for a poor performance in the eyes of the support.
A bit of a quandary
Hearts find itself in a bit of a quandary at the moment. The Jambos are in the Scottish Cup Final at the end of May, but they still have some important league games to navigate.
They will not want to suffer a second straight defeat to rivals Hibs when the teams met next week. After that game, Hearts might well rest players ahead of the cup final against Celtic.
However, a series of defeats will not go down well with the Hearts support. It is all about finding a balance, and Levein will need to work on that this week and going forward.
