Hearts have progressed to the League Cup semi-finals after a penalty shootout win over Aberdeen at Tynecastle, much to the delight of fans.

A last gasp Craig Halkett header in added time took the game to extra time at 2-2. Nothing could separate them and it came down to the dreaded spot kicks.

After netting two in normal time, the Dons didn’t score one of their penalties, as the Jambos eased past them with a 3-0 shootout win.

It’s a brilliant result for the Jambos, especially after the highs the Edinburgh derby victory brought to Tynecastle.

Some fans have reacted to the brilliant result.

Another positive for Hearts fans as League Cup progression is secured

The victory over Hibs gave everyone associated with Hearts a bit of respite. After months of negativity, there was finally something to smile about in Gorgie.

That feeling has been retained for now and Craig Levein will be a relieved man. In normal time, his men were just two minutes away from the exit door before Halkett’s big moment.

Instead they’ve secured their third semi-final berth in a row. That’s a pretty decent feat considering how poor they have been in the league over the past 12 months.

In the next round they will face Rangers. That will be a pretty daunting task, but if they can keep building confidence, the Jambos may just have a chance against the Govan side.

There’s confidence building in Gorgie and now Hearts will head to St Mirren with the aim of making this brilliant week a perfect one.
