St Johnstone started their season in the worst possible fashion against Celtic at Parkhead.

The Hoops hit the Saints with a 7-0 hammering on the first day of the season.

A ruthless Celtic side cut through Tommy Wright’s men with ease. It’ll be a game they try to forget about in a hurry.

Some St Johnstone fans have reacted to the result.

St Johnstone must prepare for Parkhead criticism

No matter who you play against in this league, a 7-0 defeat is not acceptable.

Going five at the back set the tone for what Wright wanted his side to do against the Parkhead side. It’s not the worst idea, given how good the Hoops can be, but you need to make it work.

Saying it didn’t work would probably be an understatement. With every Celtic goal that hit the net, St Johnstone’s confidence dropped further and further.

After damaging League Cup defeats to Forfar and Montrose, this defeat will have just compounded St Johnstone’s early season misery.

They must prepare for criticism in the wake of yet another bad defeat. The Saints were rolled over with ease and major improvement is needed before their next match against Livingston.

A defeat in their first home game of the season would definitely set the alarm bells ringing in Perth, if they aren’t already.
