Greenock Morton eliminated Celtic B from the SPFL Trust Trophy as second round matches played out across the country.

New Celtic signing Ciaran Dickson netted for the Parkhead youngsters but Scottish Championship opposition proved too strong. Michael Garrity, Robbie Muirhead and Cameron Blues goals sealing a comfortable Morton win.

St Mirren B were also eliminated, albeit in harsher circumstances. They lost 6-0 to League Two side Albion Rovers. Aberdeen B provided a shock by beating Championship Arbroath. Dick Campbell’s side hit the bar three times after Michael Ruth’s opener and took the game to penalties with a last-gasp Liam Henderson goal.

Aberdeen’s youngsters won the penalty shootout 4-1. Cove Rangers and Stenhousemuir also needed penalties in their contest, Cove winning 4-2.Partick Thistle edged past Stranraer 2-0 to ensure the Firhill club were not stunned by lower league opposition. Montrose secured a slender 1-0 win over Stirling Albion in Saturday’s other early kick-off.

Second round fixtures started on Tuesday, when Hamilton survived a scare against Hearts B to win 3-2 before Queen’s Park eliminated Airdrie on Friday night via penalty kicks. Elgin City were handed a 3-0 walkover against Dunfermline due to a Covid-19 outbreak at the East End Park club.

 

Inverness Caledonian Thistle strolled to a 4-0 success over Highland League Buckie Thistle and Kilmarnock enjoyed a 3-1 success over League One promotion hopefuls Falkirk. Alloa ran out 2-0 winners away to Cowdenbeath at New Central Park.

East Fife hung on to a 1-0 win at Peterhead thanks to a goal from Danny Denholm after just 10 minutes. Raith Rovers won by the same scoreline at home to Forfar Athletic as all victorious parties move into next month’s third round.
