Livingston strolled to an impressive win over St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park this afternoon – the Perth side playing as big a part in their own downfall as David Martindale’s side.

It didn’t take long for Livi to fire themselves in front, Odin Bailey opening the scoring for the West Lothian side after only three minutes when he fired low into the corner from the edge of the area and left Saints keeper Zander Clark with no chance.

The hosts didn’t waste their time in going looking for an equaliser and they must have thought they had it when Liam Craig’s volley rattled the crossbar and gave Livi a scare.

St Johnstone’s afternoon went from bad to worse 15 minutes after the opener when defender Shaun Rooney stood on the ball and rolled his ankle as he tried to break down the right – with the defender looking to be in some pain as he hobbled off to be replaced by Lars Dendoncker

The agony continued for St Johnstone just before the half-hour as Livingston doubled their lead through Bruce Anderson when Saints defender Jamie McCart made a mess of receiving a pass and the Livi striker robbed him of the ball before firing home and giving David Martindale’s side a comfortable lead at the break.

Things didn’t get much better after the break, more comical defending contributing to Livingston’s third goal, Efe Ambrose and Michael O’Halloran running into each other on the edge of their own box and allowing Bruce Anderson to collect the ball and square it to Scott Pitman, who rolled the ball home to make it 3-0 and put the seal on a win which taks Livingston four points clear of Ross County and Dundee at the foot of the table.
