Derek McInnes has revealed that the late goal scored by RoPS in the Europa League tie at Pittodrie took the gloss off a good display by his Aberdeen players.

The Dons were cruising in the tie thanks to goals from Niall McGinn and Sam Cosgrove. However, an injury-time goal by Tommi Jantti made the final score 2-1.

As a result, what looked like a comfortable lead for Aberdeen is now anything but.

“Wasn’t the result I was looking for”

“We worked them well and looked the better side but the goal means this wasn’t the result I was looking for” McInnes said, as reported by the Herald.

“It is not as if we were caught up the pitch but it was a good pass and a nice finish and you have to praise them for that but ultimately it is a sore one for us.”

Striker picked up where he left off

What the Dons boss can be pleased about is the performance of Sam Cosgrove. The striker picked up where he left off last season, finding the back of the net in the second-half.

Aberdeen created plenty of chances in the game. McInnes will be confident that they will find the back of the net in Finland.

However, it would have been so much easier without that late goal. Now it could be very fraught night for the Dons in the second leg.
