Aaron Hickey is set to become the centre of a transfer battle between Celtic and Crystal Palace (Scottish Sun).
Rumours have swirled for months now over Hickey’s future. Big names like Manchester City have been mentioned previously but it’s Celtic and Crystal Palace who have been named as suitors in the most recent report.
Both the Hoops and the Eagles are after the Hearts utility defender – and a deal could be cheap.
Hickey’s current club Hearts have implemented 50% wage cuts across the board in order to plug the financial gap no football is bringing due to the current suspension of SPFL football.
That could see Celtic and Palace swoop in for a cheap deal. The report states that the teenager did have a big price on his head but the financial cuts have alerted teams to a potential bargain.
He could even be available for free should he reject his Tynecastle wage cut. Celtic only let Hickey leave their academy in 2018 but Hearts could be about to make them pay as much as seven figures if they want him back.
A big cash boost like that would certainly help them in their current predicament. Whether Crystal Palace or Hickey’s former club Celtic want to go that far for him remains to be seen.
