He was a £5 million asset for Aston Villa just recently – but former Kilmarnock midfielder Aaron Tshibola is hoping to start afresh abroad.
The battler impressed for Reading in his first stages as a professional, earning Aston Villa interest. They splashed £5 million on him but he only ever made 10 appearances.
He did, however, make 43 in a loan spell at Rugby Park. Now with Desportivo Aves in Portugal, Tshibola wants to put the past behind him.
“If you’re willing to come out of your comfort zone you will reap the rewards,” he told the Sun. “I used to watch players like Zidane, Ronaldinho and Vieira, and all of them played in all of the top European leagues and that is my dream.
“I feel like, for a major part of my career, I’ve missed out on a lot of learning. Just because everyone thought I was the finished article.
“So I’m enjoying and embracing it. I’m playing against teams like Porto and Benfica. This is my dream.”
A potential Killie return?
Whilst Tshibola is playing in the Liga NOS just now, it could have been different for him. It was heavily rumoured that both he and Killie were in talks over a permanent move in January.
Nothing ever materialised though and the midfielder is now in Portugal. It’s been a rough ride for him since his big Aston Villa move but he’ll be hoping this provides an opportunity to find the potential within him.
Tshibola made two appearances for Desportivo before the football shutdown due to the global health pandemic.
