Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes is adamant that star striker Sam Cosgrove will not be leaving Pittodrie any time soon.

The attacker continued his blistering start to the season with a hat-trick in the 5-0 Europa League win over Chikhura Sachkhere.

He has six goals already this season, which is a remarkable record. Unsurprisingly, his excellent form both this season and last season is attracting attention. But the Aberdeen manager won’t be letting the player move on.

“Sam’s got 25 goals in 32 games, which is incredible. But we will keep those goalscoring stats to ourselves until the window shuts” McInnes said, as reported by the Daily Record.

“He will be staying with us”

“We’ve had enquires about Sam already from other clubs, but he will be staying with us this season.”

So well is Cosgrove playing that it seems only a matter of time before a club attempt to sign the player. That could happen in the next week with the English transfer window on the verge of closing.

However, with Aberdeen still in the Europa League there is likely no way they will even consider selling Cosgrove at the moment.

Manager’s comments are a message to other clubs

It would go down very badly with the support. McInnes’ comments seem to be a message to any interested clubs that the player is not for sale.

With Aberdeen kicking off their league campaign against Hearts on Sunday, Cosgrove will be eager to score more goals. Should that happen, the number of clubs interested will only grow.
