Aberdeen manager Stephen Glass has admitted that the future of Newcastle loanee Matty Longstaff is out of his hands as he confessed he’d have “liked better performances” from the St. James’ Park midfielder.
Longstaff has struggled to catch the eye in an Aberdeen side that haven’t exactly hit the heights this season, leading to suggestions his season-long loan in the Granite City could be cut short in the January transfer window.

While Glass admitted that decision wasn’t his to make, he did confirm there are “discussions that have to happen” between Aberdeen and Newcastle over Longstaff’s future.
The Aberdeen boss thinks things could be better – on both sides of the deal – and insisted there’s still time for the 21-year-old to turn his time at Pittodrie around with Aberdeen still having seven games to play before the winter break gets started at the beginning of January.
“That’s not a decision that we take,” Glass said when quizzed on whether Longstaff would be returning to Newcastle.
“He’s here on loan, there’s a parent club and there’s us and there’s discussions that have to happen.
“I think, clearly, Matty would’ve liked more game time, clearly we would’ve liked better performances.
“But there’s a lot of games coming in December with a lot of opportunities for a good number of our players and Matty comes under that umbrella.”
