Derek McInnes has said there have been no Aberdeen discussions with any Championship clubs amidst reported Stoke City interest in Sam Cosgrove.
A recent report has linked the clinical Dons forward with a move to the Potters (Scottish Sun). The striker is enjoying a fine run of form so far this term.
It’s led to inevitable speculation over his next move but McInnes says Aberdeen haven’t spoken to anyone about Cosgrove.
He told the BBC: “There has been no conversation with any Championship club. If a bid gets put in for any of our players it’s up to our board to consider but from my conversations with the board we all know how important Sam is to us.
“If the right offer comes in for any of our players, players will be sold, that’s the way it is. But we’re confident enough that we want to make sure the right offers come in.
“We can’t do anything about that – all we can do is if the offer comes in be in a strong position to say yes or no, and I think we are in a position to say yes or no and that’s not always the case.”
Cosgrove’s firing on all cylinders
The striker has netted 18 goals in all competitions this season, a fine record. What’s more impressive is the longevity of his form.
He’s netted 37 in 50 games and 24 in 37 league matches. It’s a phenomenal run of form and Aberdeen are obviously worse off without him. It’ll take a big bid for them to even consider parting with the striker.
McInnes has aimed to put a few minds to rest over speculation. For now, it seems as if Cosgrove will be going nowhere. It can’t be helped if someone lodges a big offer for him, but until that happen, he’ll stay at Pittodrie.
Both Cosgrove and McInnes’ attention will turn to a big clash in Aberdeen when Rangers come to town. The Dons are third in the Premiership heading into that match.
