Aberdeen have reportedly set their sights on sealing a deal for Ross County striker Ross Stewart (Daily Record).
Derek McInnes has made no secret of the fact he wants to add to his squad in January but there’s also been rumours of an exit. Newcastle United have been linked with Dons forward Sam Cosgrove.
The Englishman has scored 45 goals in 95 Aberdeen appearances and Newcastle United have scouted him with a view to a transfer according to reports.
Newcastle United currently sit 12th in the Premier League but McInnes is seemingly lining up a transfer swoop of his own, County’s Stewart in his sights. The hard-working forward is a key man for Stuart Kettlewell’s team, shining most recently in their 2-0 triumph away to Celtic.
He’s not had it easy in football, Stewart working way up from junior ranks to Premiership action. Now Aberdeen are seemingly keen to give him that next step up the footballing ladder.
This one wouldn’t happen in January, although long-term admirer McInnes is said to be willing to pull out all the stops to make it happen in the summer, once his Ross County deal expires.
Pittodrie boss McInnes insists there will be business in and out of the Granite City in January: “We can’t stress the importance of having a good December because on the back of that it should allow us to make necessary changes in January.
“Yes, we will be looking at free transfers and loans. Players will also need to go out. Hopefully we will still be at the top end in January.”
