Aberdeen winger Niall McGinn has cast his mind back to when he received bullets in the post early on in his career.
The Northern Irishman is a Dons mainstay now, having made over 200 appearances across two Pittodrie spells.

During an interview with Open Goal, the winger recalled why he and current Celtic boss Neil Lennon were sent bullets in the post back in 2011.
He said: “I heard this big chap at the door and Lenny was at the door. He was like ‘look, there’s been bullets sent to yourself and me but they’ve been intercepted. There’s going to be a big story coming out in the papers tomorrow. Go and phone your mum and dad.’
“I phoned them straight away. You just have to forget about it. It’s one of those one where you need to get it out of your mind as quickly as possible.”
Such events haven’t followed McGinn to Aberdeen
This event occurred when McGinn was still at Celtic and thankfully it hasn’t travelled with him to Aberdeen. It’s a truly shocking incident that no footballer should have been subjected to.

Some people just take things too far and this was clearly one of those moments. It seems as if McGinn had the right mindset though and has been able to move on from this event.
McGinn left Parkhead for Aberdeen in 2012 where the Northern Irishman has stayed since, bar a short spell with Asian side Gwangju FC in 2017. He has been a truly remarkable servant for the Pittodrie club.
It’s also good that incidents like this have been left firmly in his past.
