Airdrieonians manager Ian Murray says Thomas Robert is aiming to win a deal at Burnley, amid interest from cinch Premiership club Celtic.
Robert was at Parkhead for a Celtic trial last season but returned to Airdrie for the end of the League One season. The Frenchman has been training with Burnley to try and earn a contract in the English Premier League and has featured in friendly matches against Rangers U23s and Ayr United this month. Murray said of the Burnley and Celtic target (DR): “Thomas is away down there training so we will see what happens in the next few days. We were fine with that because we knew it was happening and it’s a fantastic opportunity for him to earn a deal at a very good Premier League club in England.
“We couldn’t possibly stand in Thomas’ way. He’s missed out on building relationships with our new players in terms of understanding how they play and vice versa. That’s a negative side of things for Thomas but on a positive note, he’s a very fit boy. He’s still training down at Burnley, it’s not like he’s just sitting on a beach.
“He will be in great condition if he comes back but we will need to get him up to speed in terms of getting acquainted with all our new players. That can take a bit of time but he will be fine because he adapted really well last season.”
