Airdrieonians attacker Thomas Robert is set to snub Celtic interest and head to the English Premier League on trial (DR).

The French winger joined the cinch League One side from Ligue 1 club Montpellier last summer in a surprising switch. His form and potential has attracted interest, Celtic taking him on trial at Parkhead earlier this year.

Celtic have continued to monitor Robert’s progress since, despite interest from rival parties both north and south of the border.

Burnley have moved ahead of Celtic in the race to sign Robert, offering him a two-week trial at Turf Moor with a view to signing a permanent contract. The EPL club recently announced a strategic partnership with cinch Championship side Ayr United.

Sean Dyche’s team could beat Celtic to signing the 20-year-old Frenchman. Elsewhere, Airdrie have secured the signing of Motherwell academy product Matthew McDonald, NTOF can reveal.
