Scottish football has recently seen an influx of foreign ownership.

In the Premiership Hibs, Dundee, Dundee United, St Johnstone have all either been bought over or sold a minority shareholding to Americans as interest in the Scottish game grows.

The Hibees and the Dee both have link-ups with Premier League clubs Bournemouth and Burnley respectively, through their US owners. While Hearts have also recently had interest from Englishman and owner of Brighton and data analytics companies, Tony Bloom.

It is seen as potential positive for our clubs to benefit not only from investment but shared resources and borrowing players from bigger clubs down south, but it’s all in its infancy at the moment.

Anders Holch Povlsen shows Dundee United interest

As mentioned, Dundee United are owned by American Mark Ogren, who has a controlling stake of around 85 per cent.

But they could be set for further investment with Denmark’s richest man reportedly showing an interest.

Anders Holch Povlsen owns Midtjylland in his homeland and also runs African talent schools and has involvement with Portuguese club CD Mafra.

He has started a ‘Football Collective’ branch of his company Heartland and wants to create new sporting partnerships as part of that.

According to Danish outlet Tipsbladet, the 51-year-old has shown serious consideration to different ways in which he can invest at Tannadice as he looks to branch out across Europe.

Brentford owner Matthew Benham was previously interested in a link-up with the Tangerines . He also previously owned Midtjylland before being bought out by Povlsen.

Bloom also showed an interest in United, as well as Aberdeen, before settling on Hearts.

Ogren said last year he had no imminent interest in selling but did admit he wouldn’t be around forever.

He explained: “I probably have more years behind me than I do in front of me (as owner), but I’m not actively looking to sell.

“Frankly, I’ve never had any discussions with anyone about selling the club.

“It probably sounds weird to hear this coming from me right now, but I feel really good about the club. Season ticket sales are great — we had 9,000 people at a Championship game last weekend!

“Retail is up, sponsorship is up and we just made some nice improvements to our facilities. I feel good about Jim Goodwin leading the football operations.”
