Zech Medley is hoping Kilmarnock can provide him with the minutes he needs after a last-gasp Deadline Day switch from Arsenal.

The 20-year-old centre-back had spent the first half of this season at Gillingham in League One but now the Arsenal talent joins Killie for the rest of the season, who are currently carrying plenty of fitness issues at centre-back.

His new club are also without a manager, although they are expected to appoint former St Johnstone boss Tommy Wright ahead of Wednesday’s match with Motherwell. Medley’s debut came in a 2-0 defeat to St Mirren, leaving Killie 10th in the table.

The Arsenal loanee says it was strange to come to a club without a manager but it didn’t put him off an Ayrshire move: “Results haven’t been great for the club recently but it was great just to get out there with the boys because I only arrived on Monday.

“Having got a few days training under my belt it was good to get out on the pitch again, even though St Mirren made it hard for us at times and we didn’t create too much. It was tough to go straight into the side but you have to deal with it.

“I’m also at the stage in my career where I have to take all these things on board and make myself better going forward. It’s been a little bit of uncertainty I guess but the staff that have been here have been brilliant so I can’t have any complaints.”
