Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta admits he has no idea over how long Scotland star Kieran Tierney will be out injured for after suffering a knee knock.

The left-back was substituted in the weekend match between Arsenal and Liverpool at half-time, Arteta’s side going on to lose 3-0. It’s a concern for club and country at a vital time in the season.

It’s particularly worrying given Tierney’s injury problems in his first season at Arsenal that ruled him out of international football for over a year. The Gunners star was immense for Scotland in the last three World Cup qualifying matches in March and will be a key player for Steve Clarke at Euro 2020 in eight weeks time, if fit.

Arteta said: “He felt something in his knee and he was in pain. He will be injured but we don’t know for how long.”

Tierney took the injury after a robust challenge from James Milner. It initially looked as if he would continue but he was soon subbed at half-time as the Scotland international left the pitch in some discomfort.
