Arsenal star Kieran Tierney admits he is fortunate to be playing at Euro 2020 this summer after fearing a knee injury had ruined his Scotland chances.
The defender will be a key player for Steve Clarke’s side this summer as Scotland heads to its first major tournament since 1998. But there were doubts over Tierney’s fitness after he picked up a knee injury while playing for Arsenal in April.
While scheduled to miss the rest of the domestic season with Arsenal, Tierney returned in May, playing enough games to prove his fitness ahead of a huge summer. Tierney admits he’s thankful for a speedy recovery (Sky): “When I got injured, I feared the worst. I feared my season was over.
“But I worked hard, I worked very hard to get back. I played a European semi-final four-and-half weeks after which is a great recovery time for the injury that I had. Usually, it would be about six weeks. But to get so many games in before coming out with Scotland is going to benefit me hopefully.”
