Wednesday night saw two of Scotland’s recent national team heroes come face to face in the Premier League. Arsenal, featuring Kieran Tierney, took on Southampton, who had Stuart Armstrong in their starting line-up.
The duo, who were once part of a very successful Celtic team, played against each other twice last season, with a 2-2 draw in the first game, with Arsenal picking up a 2-0 win in the second encounter.
Third meeting between old teammates
Armstrong’s wait for a win over his old teammate will go on, as the most recent match ended in a 1-1 draw. The circumstances of the game will probably please Tierney more than Armstrong.

The reason for that – Arsenal were reduced to 10 men in the second-half. Tierney managed to help his team earn the point despite being under pressure for large parts of the game. As for Armstrong, he was substituted in the 63rd minute, just after the red card.
Defender will be more satisfied
So it ended honours even, but Tierney will likely be more satisfied with the outcome of the game. Scotland boss Steve Clarke would have been watching the game with interest, to see how two of his most important players fared.

The next meeting between Armstrong and Tierney on league business is set to take place sooner than expected. The teams are set to meet again next month, on the 26th of January. Armstrong will be hoping to get one over on Tierney at the fourth attempt in that fixture.
In the meantime, both players will now be focusing on the very busy Christmas and New Year fixture schedule.
