Interim Ayr United manager Davie White says the Honest Men hope to have a new manager in the dugout for this weekend’s match with Hearts.
The club’s academy chief has taken temporary charge of the club following the departure of Mark Kerr as manager. Ayr beat Morton 2-0 at Cappielow in his first match, lifting them out of the Scottish Championship’s relegation play-off spots.
White has no interest in taking the job himself but is hopeful the club can have someone in for the trip to Hearts on Saturday. They face Raith Rovers this evening and White was pleased with how they responded to a tough week against Morton.
He said: “Football is about results but there was a big personal side to deal with this week as the players were very close to Mark and Mick [McArdle, assistant manager]. So it’s been an emotional week for the club.
“It was important to get over the line in terms of a result because the Morton match was a huge game for our season. We can’t say this will be a turning point but as a group we needed this. It should now inspire and motivate the players and everyone, the supporters included, desperately needed this one result.
“It’s now over to the players to how they kick on from this on Tuesday night. The chairman has been great in spelling out what will happen and we have a target of having someone in place by the Hearts game.
“I think the players have appreciated knowing that as they like to know where they stand. I have been at the club as a backroom person for a long time. I have a role as head of the academy and as a first-team coach. I have done that for a number of years and I adore the role, so becoming manager isn’t for me.”
