Hearts have officially announced the signing of Liverpool attacking midfielder Ben Woodburn on a season-long loan deal.

The Welsh international’s move has been spoken of for almost a week now. Hearts manager Robbie Neilson confirmed after Sunday’s 1-1 Scottish Premiership draw with Aberdeen that Woodburn was due in Edinburgh to complete his move from Edinburgh.

Aged 21, Woodburn was named in the first Liverpool squad of the English Premier League season against Norwich City. Anfield manager Jurgen Klopp contemplated keeping the attacking midfielder as a squad player but Woodburn heads north for the season. He is the youngest goalscorer in Liverpool history.

Neilson said: “I’m really pleased that we’ve got this one over the line. Ben is a top class player with Premier League and international experience and he was really eager to join us. He’s an exciting player, one who I think will fit really well into our style of play.

“He’s quick, direct and can bring us different options in the final third. I’m looking forward to working with him and I hope that he will be a success here at Hearts.”
