Benjamin Siegrist says transfer speculation is something professional players need to deal with after the Dundee United goalkeeper’s links to Celtic, the EFL and Europe.

The Swiss keeper was immense for United in the 2020/21 season and has attracted plenty of interest ahead of the new cinch Premiership campaign. Ipswich Town lodged bids before signing former St Mirren goalkeeper Vaclav Hladky while Celtic have been mentioned repeatedly. There has also been talk of moves to Russia for Siegrist.

But the Arab goalkeeper says he’s committed to (Sky): “I definitely feel like I’m doing something right. I don’t like to talk just about me. It was about the whole team. If you play against those top teams, you are going to have to make a save. I was happy to do so last year and I’m sure I’ll be called up this season again.

“Like I say, it’s optimising it to the maximum. If a player does well, there’s always going to be a bit of interest. But we’re professionals. We have to deal with that kind of stuff.

“The main focus is on the preparation because that gives you the security to perform. I’ve managed that quite well  and it’s something that I want to do this season as well.”
