There is no doubt about who was man of the match in St Mirren’s memorable 3-2 League Cup quarter-final win over Rangers on Wednesday night.
That award goes to St Mirren’s Jamie McGrath who scored two goals. He showed nerves of steel to score a penalty, and put St Mirren into a 2-1 lead with a deft finish which gave Allan McGregor no chance.
There is no doubt those goals will be remembered for a long time by both the player and St Mirren’s fans. St Mirren are currently in a very good run of form.
Lengthy unbeaten run
The team are unbeaten in eight games, and McGrath has been at the forefront of the team’s recent revival. He has scored five goals in St Mirren’s last four games, including winners against Aberdeen in the Betfred Cup and against Motherwell in the league.

With those goals in recent games, McGrath has taken his total for the season to six. His next target should be reaching double figures in goals. That is something that the 24-year-old looks capable of achieving. Especially if he keeps taking St Mirren’s penalties.
Good league form must continue
For now though, McGrath and St Mirren won’t be thinking about the Betfred Cup semi-final against Livingston. Instead, Jim Goodwin will want his players to continue their good form, and get away from the wrong end of the Premiership table.

If McGrath can continue to find the back of the net, then St Mirren could go on to have their best season in a long time. McGrath reaching double figures in goals would certainly help with that.
