He’s been linked with the likes of Celtic and Rangers – but Lawrence Shankland says he doesn’t take too much notice of transfer speculation.
The forward has been in scintillating form over the last two seasons, scoring 62 goals across the 2018/19 and 19/20 campaigns. It’s led to a Scotland call-up and a host of links to big clubs like Celtic and Rangers.
But the Dundee United striker isn’t bothered by the talk. For him, he just wants to get his head down and help United over the Championship finishing line in order to get back to Premiership action.
“It’s not something I’ve been thinking about,” he told the BBC. “We were kind of stuttering our way towards the title with a wee bit of drop in form and not picking up great results.
“That was my main focus – to get back to winning ways. Obviously this interruption has caused a wee bit of a delay to that.
“But hopefully when we eventually get back we can start well and get it won.”
With the links that Shankland has had, you couldn’t blame him for having his head turned slightly after a few seasons of prolific form in the Championship and League One.
But alas, he seems very focused on the task at hand, which is good news for Dundee United. They sit 14 points clear in their pursuit of the second tier crown.
Football’s on hold though for the foreseeable future, so Shankland will likely have to wait a while before completing this season’s Tannadice mission.
