Birmingham City have handed Charlie Lakin a new one-year deal after his form for Ross County during his Dingwall loan spell.

The midfielder scored a crucial goal against Hamilton Accies last week that put County on the brink of Scottish Premiership survival. He appeared as a substitute on Sunday as the Birmingham City loanee helped seal safety for good via a 2-1 victory over Motherwell at Fir Park.

Lakin has spent the majority of the season at Ross County on loan from Birmingham City, enjoying a fruitful stint in which he has scored four goals in 24 appearances. His deal had been due to experience at the English Championship club in the summer.

But Birmingham City manager Lee Bowyer has been convinced by Lakin’s County performances and he will remain with them next season. Lakin had previously been at Stevenage on loan prior to his Ross County loan move, which is now over.
