Birmingham City manager Lee Bowyer has confirmed he has former Livingston goalkeeper Matija Sarkic on trial.
The English Championship club are assessing potential goalkeeper options after Neil Etheridge was put into hospital with Covid-19. Sarkic is currently with Wolves, having joined the Premier League club in 2020. Livingston had Sarkic on loan from Aston Villa in the first half of the 2019/20 Scottish Premiership season.
He impressed over 18 appearances, forcing his way into Montenegro contention. Sarkic featured in the Birmingham City friendly win over Cheltenham Town on Saturday, Bowyer saying (Birmingham Live): “He has been with us this week and he has done very well. A couple of good saves especially early on.
“So he has done himself no harm, he has done well really, he has impressed me for sure. You can’t just jump into it, every position is important but more so the goalkeeping one. They are your last line of defence and we have to get that right – that person that we bring in. He has done himself no harm.”
