Dundee and Kilmarnock have served up some classics when facing each other in recent times.
Today’s Premiership clash was no different as a five-goal thriller swung this way and that with Killie twice taking the lead before the Dee won it late on to move away from the bottom of the table.
Loanee left wing-back Ziyad Larkeche was the hero in the 94th minute as Tony Docherty’s side rose to sixth after looking at one stage like being the league’s bottom dogs.
Their rivals United getting an equaliser against Hibs helped them but that Larkeche winner has the potential to kickstart some momentum.
Dundee sub Julien Vetro rushed to hospital after fainting
The kick-off to the game was delayed by 15 minutes and the reason given at the time was an ‘illness’.
It has now emerged that was to Julien Vetro, who was due to take his place on the Dundee bench but fainted and was unconscious for a while.
Manager Tony Docherty has since confirmed the 20-year-old Burnley loanee was checked over at hospital and given the all-clear before returning to celebrate the win with his teammates.
He told the BBC: “He just fainted and was unconscious for quite a bit.
“It was a real concern for the players, witnessing that. It was pretty worrying for a spell but he’s been to hospital and they’ve done checks on him and he’s back in the dressing room celebrating with his team-mates.”
Tony Docherty gives Dundee players ‘full credit’
Docherty wants to ensure his players get the credit they deserve for their spirited comeback win.
Singling out Larkeche for special praise, the 53-year-old still wanted his full team to be recognised for their efforts.
He added: “I want the players to get full credit for their performance and their resilience for not lying down. If you look at Ziyad Larkeche’s run to get that goal from the halfway line that is just desire to win the match with 20 seconds left to go.
“For the team to go 2-0 down at home and with the run we’ve been on, to show that character and mentality, I’m delighted. They deserve everything they get.
“We’ve done a lot of work on stuff in this little run and it all came out there on the pitch. They’re a hard-working bunch and they got their rewards today.”
