It might be an April Fool’s gag – but East Fife have used this an opportunity to take aim at recent Celtic and Rangers Colts proposals.

Celtic and Rangers ‘B’ teams are willing to buy spaces in League Two next season, a move which would restructure the SPFL pyramid and expand League Two to 16 teams. It’s been met with mixed views.

Two teams from the Lowland and Highland League would join the Celtic and Rangers Colt sides in this division, with promotion to League One a possibility. The Glasgow pair would be willing to put £3 million forward for spaces in this division.

The cash would be spread over five years in a financial boost to lower league sides and it could be voted on by clubs soon if proposals pass SPFL and SFA inspection. But League One East Fife have moved to mock such ideas this morning.

They wrote on Twitter: “BREAKING NEWS – East Fife FC are delighted to announce, that starting from nex season (2021/22), East Fife U20’s will be rebranded to East Fife FC – Colts. The EF Colts will start next season straight into an expanded @spfl League 2.”
