St Johnstone have been applauded for their weekend performance against Celtic, in which they took a 1-1 draw.

Form couldn’t have been more different heading into this one. St Johnstone had the chance to go 11 unbeaten at Celtic Park while the Hoops headed into this with two wins in 11.

In the main, Callum Davidson’s side were comfortable at Parkhead, Celtic rarely troubling his defence. The plan for the Perth side seemed to be sit deep and hit on the counter.

It’s what Ross County did in their 2-0 win at Parkhead and it almost got the Saints a massive victory. Stevie May broke down the left, squaring the ball for Chris Kane, who put his resulting effort into the net with ten minutes to go.

But the lead was short-lived as Celtic threw the kitchen sink at things, Mohamed Elyounoussi scoring a header eight minutes from time to salvage a point for a Hoops side in disarray.

While the headlines will likely be dominated by another poor performance for the home side, fans have rightly recognised how well Davidson’s side did to go 11 games unbeaten.
