Celtic Park trip leaves St Johnstone with unfamiliar disappointment says Jamie McCart

Usually a point away to Celtic would be a good thing – but for Jamie McCart, it’s one that isn’t wholly satisfying given how things panned out.

Celtic were held to a 1-1 draw by St Johnstone on Sunday, a Chris Kane goal 10 minutes from time looking likely to have given Saints a huge win. But Mohamed Elyounoussi’s looping header salvaged a Celtic point.

McCart was again on top form as his former side Celtic made it two wins in 12, a contrast to St Johnstone’s brilliant run of 11 games unbeaten. The centre-back says it’s a great time to be a Perth supporter.

But there’s disappointment over a Parkhead point (Saints TV): “Normally I think if you get a point at Celtic Park you would be absolutely delighted.

“But after taking the 1-0 lead and limiting them to very few chances it is probably disappointing in the end. It was a lot of luck on their part. The boy tries to flick it on and somehow it has ended up in the top corner.“

“But overall I think it is a brilliant performance from us. Tactically we set up well and done our jobs. You don’t come to Celtic that often and feel comfortable. It was another brilliant team performance.”

“There definitely is a lot of positivity about playing for St Johnstone at the minute. Even from the start of the season. Even if we had a bad result the positivity was still the same. We would come in the next day and the gaffer would be normal.

“It has helped the boys and kept the morale high, but it now much easier to be happy when results are going your way.

“It definitely is [an exciting time to be a St Johnstone fan]. We have a young squad, a young manager and we play open expansive football. We just need to continue working hard and hopefully we give the fans more to cheer.”
